Art for Glaciers Preservation

This exhibition brings together a powerful collection of artistic works that explore the impacts of climate change on glaciers and their ecosystems. Through photography, sound, and innovative visual techniques, the featured artists shed light on the delicate and impermanent beauty of glaciers, sparking a conversation about our planet’s warming climate. Each piece tells a story of transformation and fragility, urging us to reflect on the need for collective action to preserve these vital natural wonders for future generations.

THOMAS WREDE - Glacier Project: White Was The Snow

Since 2018, Thomas Wrede has developed various photographic series related to the melting of alpine glaciers. He is particularly intrigued by glaciers and glacial caves that are covered by fleece blankets to protect against the warming climate. This has less to do with conserving the integrity of the ice and more about the preservation of tourist attractions and economic interests. With his poetic and subtle image aesthetics, the artist Thomas Wrede evokes an elegiac meditation on the once untouched Alpine landscape. With his aesthetic and at the same time critical eye, Wrede shows the traces of the climate crisis and the beauty of nature in the middle of Europe. His artistic exploration results in disturbingly beautiful images.

LUDWIG BERGER - Crying Glaciers

A sound artist tries to conserve the sounds of a melting glacier in the Swiss alps before it might disappear forever.

The louder the glacier, the stronger the melt. The creaking, cracking and rippling is the voice of impermanence. Sound artist Ludwig Berger shows how important it is to listen to the world that surrounds us. The film follows him on one of his numerous visits to Morteratsch glacier in the Swiss Alps where he collects fascinating sounds that might disappear forever.

"All the little air bubbles that are released are maybe hundreds or thousand years old, and they make just a little plop sound, and then they're gone forever."
